It requires dedication, curiosity, and a desire to make sense of what you see. If you like physics, enjoy trying to figure out how things around you work, and are interested in mastering the principles of optics to help design and manufacture innovative solutions, this job is for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since a product\u2019s optical performance is closely related to its ultimate overall performance, optical designers need to understand how the mechanics, electronics, and software affect the performance of the system being built. That\u2019s why teams need to be multidisciplinary, collaborative, and in constant communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s no such thing as a \u201ctypical\u201d day in the life of an optical designer \u2014 so you\u2019ll never get bored! Somewhere between 10% and 80% of the job involves experimentation, and the rest of the day is taken up with design, computations, simulation, and analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
